Sometimes, life changes in a single sentence.
For Gigi St. Hilaire, it landed in May of 2020. Right in the middle of a pandemic, at just 36 years old, while the world felt uncertain and the days already carried enough weight. And what made it harder at first wasn’t only the diagnosis of cancer.
It was the road to it.
“I was dismissed, misdiagnosed, and left to wonder if anyone would truly listen,” Gigi shares. “When I finally connected with the right medical team, everything shifted.” Even then… nothing prepares you for hearing the words out loud. “Hearing the words ‘you have cancer’ is something that cannot be fully explained,” she says. “It shakes you to the core.”
And for Gigi, there was another layer, a painful echo that made the moment heavier. Her mother passed away at the same age Gigi was when she was diagnosed. “That reality alone made the weight of my diagnosis even heavier,” she says.
And still, she showed up. Not just to survive. But to awaken.
“My diagnosis was not just a fight for survival,” Gigi writes. “It was a reawakening of who I am and why God placed me on this earth.”
Before cancer, Gigi says:
“I saw a radiant, confident woman who had already overcome so much. I was finally satisfied with the woman I was becoming.”
Then treatment came. Surgery came. Loss came. And the mirror changed its tone.
“During treatments and after a unilateral mastectomy, I could hardly recognize myself in the mirror,” she says. “The reflection staring back at me felt like a stranger, and it broke me. I began to grieve the former version of myself.”
That grief is real. Quiet. Private. And it doesn’t mean you’re not strong.
It means you’re human.
Today, Gigi doesn’t look in the mirror and see brokenness.
She sees the woman who made it through.
Now a wellness and personal development coach, motivational speaker, founder of the RepurposedLIFE Kingdom Building Network, and community ambassador for the National Breast Cancer Foundation, Gigi carries her story not as a wound, but as a witness.
“Now… with one breast, scars, new hair, and thin eyebrows, I see someone striking, resilient, and extraordinary,” she shares.
“I see a queen, a warrior, an overcomer. I see a repurposed, chosen woman of God, ready to conquer anything.”
Her takeaway is clear, and it’s something every woman deserves to hear:
“When someone shows you they are ‘not on your side’… don’t worry about their feelings and just learn from it and move on without them.”
Not cold. Not cruel. Just clean.
“I see a queen, a warrior, an overcomer. I see a repurposed, chosen woman of God, ready to conquer anything.”
This is the kind of sentence you read twice.
Because it doesn’t just describe healing.
It declares it.
Gigi doesn’t chase heavy makeup. She chooses ease. Comfort. Soft confidence.
“To be honest, my beauty routine is very simple and intentional,” she says. “I’ve always loved a fresh, natural look that enhances rather than covers.”
And when she does get dressed up?
She keeps it focused on a few “feel-like-me” steps: lashes, mascara, a hint of blush, and a lip moment. Because for many women, makeup isn’t about hiding.
It’s about returning.
After everything Gigi’s been through, she wasn’t looking for more steps.
She was looking for something that felt gentle and simply did what it promised.

Keep shining, especially when it’s hard.
Beauty, in Gigi’s world, isn’t frivolous. It’s an embodiment of being female. A return to self… a quiet kind of courage.
